I have been reading a biography of George Mueller for several months. I love reading biographies of great Christians, and this one is one of the best I have looked at.
For more than half of his long life, George Mueller was head over a very large orphanage in Bristol, England. Although ministry and the orphanage were his only work, they trusted the Lord for provision for over a hundred children, and the children never lacked a meal, a blanket, or clothing.
The unique thing was that the Muellers never asked for money for their ministry work. George committed his finances in prayer to the Lord, noting that God had declared Himself “THE FATHER OF THE FATHERLESS,” and had thereby devoted Himself to provide for these children.
After several years of ministry, George Mueller first decided to tell his wife and coworkers at the orphanage. This included about thirty or forty people, and he did this so that they could share in faith-building prayer and its rewards. Some of these were young workers in extreme poverty, but because they believed in the work that they were doing, many of them sold their jewelry or expensive heirlooms to give money to the work of the orphanage.
Jesus is also the “LORD OF THE HARVEST” and I’m asking him to give me the same thing the Muellers had—friends and pray-ers, so that we can share the burden a little bit and maybe learn some things from each other while we’re at it.
